For the first time in our history America sent it's young men and women into a war run by inept politicians who had no grasp of military strategies and no moral will to win. They were led by "top brass" who were concerned mainly with furthering their own careers, most neither understood the nature of the war nor had a clue about the impossible mission with which they'd tasked their soldiers. And the war was reported by a self serving Media who penned stories filled with inaccuracies, deliberate omissions, biased presentations and blatant distorted interpretations because they were more interested in a story than the truth! It can be debated that we should never have fought that war. It can also be argued that the young Americans who fought so courageously, never losing a single major battle, helped in a huge way to WIN THE COLD WAR.

Ditto to all of that my friend. Never forget where and how that "war was lost". In New York and Washington, in TV studios and oak-paneled conference rooms -- not in Vietnam.

"These people took over the universities without a peep until it was to late."

And the infection is still growing. My son told me that *f__k Bush!* has become a standard chant for a large portion of the college bands he hears playing around campus.

Had a few...

gotta bump for reading tomorrow.

This was not an original idea, I heard or read it somewhere and it resonated!

I thought about it and I agreed, so Viet-Nam dead didn't die for nothing, they died to defeat the USSR!

"War between Capitalism and Communism is inevitable...in order to win we will need the element of surprise, but the Bourgeoisie will have to be put to sleep so we shall begin by launching the most spectacular peace movement on record.
There will be electrifying overtures and unheard of concessions... stupid and decadent (Capitalist countries), they will rejoice to cooperate in their own destruction."

Here are the lyrics posted by a local band that claims it is " a political hardcore band based in Greensboro, NC. Feel free to contact us for discussion of any topics addressed in our lyrics, at our shows, or on this website."

Lyrics from one song:
The world is held hostage
by a prison of stars and bars
lifetimes lived out in poverty, misery, and war
suckled in the world cradle of privilege
it’s time to bite the hand that feeds
they give us what we want
it’s time to take what we need
So unfurl the Red Standard
sharpen the pikes
towards our destiny we march tonight.
A homegrown Texan El Duche’s
financial backers are calling the shots
As their profits rise
bombs will drop
and their trade deals
wring every drop of blood from the poor
and it’s long past time we wage a different kind of war.

Here is the website. "Feel free to contact us for discussion of any topics addressed in our lyrics"....contact info is located in the toolbar at the top of the site.

People tend to forget that Nixon had the Moral Majority
on his side BUT caved into the Liberal Minority.
On his watch almost as many troops died
as the combined total of Eisenhower, Kenndy and Johnson.
Never forget who gave Hanoi Jane a free pass for her treason in the 70's.
No wonder her ex, Tom Hayden, could run for office in CA.

That was some summary. Very well said. I will have to save it for future reference.

You forgot law enforcement, the lawyers, the courts, and the medical estabishment (1/6 of GNP).

We will lose unless there is a new movement elected to represent our interests. The mandate and campaign money of 2002 meant nothing to republicans. They sold us out.

The scariest part is that republicans are hiding what is going on from the base. Are they part of the problem? You bet. I, for one, have no representation that fights for my beliefs. Do you?

Yes, and with the help of disgrunlted conservatives who turned on Bush 41, the Dems under Clinton replenished the aging socialists throughout the bureaucracy and the courts with a new crop of career/lifetime appointed Liberals/Socialists. Those disgruntled conservatives may do the same with Bush 43 and help to elect another Democrat.

A Conservative is one who wishes to work , achieve , worship God , and be with his friends .

I would agree with practically everything you said, except that I think your definition of conservatives is too narrow. I myself have no interest in religion- my conservative views come from observing the fact that human beings are at their best when left to their own devices.

"Was gonna read, but no connection?"

Nixon and Agnew (remember him as VP?) were too busy making political deals to worry about the war.
I've read documents that Nixon used Viet Nam as a baragaing chip to get the US into China.
You can't win when the Commander-in-Chief lays blame on everyone else.
Nixon cried the Liberal media and Congress tied his hands.
Odd how President Bush has the Liberal media and Congres against him yet he does get the job done.

Alcolholism is the fault of '60s ideology?

I know. That struck me also as ideological overkill. Nuff to be said against the 60's without going overboard. And there is clearly nothing the went on in the 60's that isn't still going on today, along with the addition of gangsta rap, rave parties and professional hit-and-run terrorists of all stripes.

In the 60's, you got busted for having a strobe light in your dorm room and burning incense. The vast majority of the college campus protests in the 60's were not about Vietnam, but about things like student fees and dorm hours being too strict. I truly wish some of these 'true blue' conservatives would stop mindless rants against 'hippies' (whatever that perjorative terms is meant to designate) and realize that the blame for what is wrong with America can be spread a little wider than that.

You are a few decades off. The Great Depression was a time of recruiting for the Communists. Many people blamed capitalism and greed for the Depression. The answer was obviously socialism, as far as they could see. The real socialists were the Communists. The liberals coveted that wonderful image manufactured by Russia and propped up by journalists like Duranty of the NY Times.

I think the 60's allowed the Old Guard radicals to recruit new followers. Fear of The Bomb was a popular fancy. Hating America was almost a requirement for being college age. Viet Nam was the best excuse of all.

FDR and his hideously ugly wife allowed radicals into the government. Truman for all his reputation allowed them to stay and covered for them.

The weeds were planted long before the 60's.

Correct. His policy in 1972 was identical to Johnson's in 64 -- i.e. win re-election.

If they hadn't come along, we'd have had to invent them. So many people think the racist, inept and powermongering Democrats of my parent's generation were in the right moral place. Well, surprise, they were not. But you had to be there.

Have you been on the McCarthy threads? Because you sound like you know what we've been discussing! We found out that info! Very very interesting.

McCarthy was RIGHT! He was a GOOD AMERICAN! The liberal/left/dems destroyed a GOOD MAN.

Well said. The "winning of the Cold War" by eliminating the Soviet Union didn't eliminate communists. It just helped to disperse them. Reagan started the elimination, but no one is finishing it.

There apparently was some change in the war between the Johnson adminstration and the Nixon administration. Please correct me if I'm wrong on some stuff. Johnson did the worst micro-managing of the air strike packages. Then towards the end, the North waited until Nixon resigned before its final offensive to the South. If Nixon was still in office at the time, he would have darkened the skies over Hanoi with B52's, using the reasoning that the treaty had been broken.

"A liberal is an ideologue who believes in attaining his goal through any means ( 'any means to an end ') : lying , cheating , racebaiting , classwarfare , and the transfer of wealth These are typixcal Socialist - communist methods."

Sounds they have morphed into today's neo-con.
