good manners are taught.

I think good manners are about having respect for other people's space and privacy. I don't think tipping is about manners. Tipping is a custom that does vary in different countries, over different eras and over different occupations. Not tipping correctly is about either a lack of knowledge to the custom or about can be about being cheap.

For most things, if you respect other people, you will mostly have good manners.

Respect is given unless actions merit the removal of it...then it must be earned.

I think tipping as is customary is good manners ...just my opinion.
