Great analysis of the situation, and I agree. This shows the value of having Tom in the race. His ideas are having an impact on the campaign. In time, whichever is not the front runner will drop out, most likely Tom. Arnold has left the door wide open for Tom to join him in putting Cali aright again.

Exactly.
As I quoted from another article in another thread:
"Top Schwarzenegger aides said they are impressed with McClintock's ideas on rolling back the tripling of the car tax, instantly renegotiating the state's long-term energy contracts, reforming the workman's compensation system, and eliminating all duplicative state spending."
And added:
I think what would be best for CA AND McClintock is if he withdrew, supported Arnold, and accepted a position in Arnold's administration, or worked with Arnold from the CA Legilature, where he is now, then in 2008 Tom could run as a very credible candidate with broader support, as one, who was instrumental in turning CA around.
Conversely, if McClintock insists on staying in to the bitter end, and if Arnold loses, by about the margin, which went to McClintock, I doubt the Republican Party will be very forgiving.

Exactly. I am totally in line with McClintock's positions. However, Tom cannot and will not win. Purists insisting on supporting McClintock do not understand politics (the art of the possible) and are not listening to Arnold. His news conference this week was a Reaganesque TOUR DE FORCE-(note Reaganesque doe not mean I confuse Arnold for Ronald Maximus). I heard one veteran pol reporter state that she has rarely in her career seen a politician control a room like Arnold did. He makes Davis look less than a school girl, and Bustamante the utter baffoon he is. Arnold comes from a different place than we would like. But do you all realize how involved he has been with the libertarian Reason Foundation. Nothing he has said would indicate Arnold is anything other than a to the core conservative with respect to fiscal matters. If we are really to have significant (revolutionary) structual economic reform in this State, we must have a leader who can shove the looney libs in Sacto on their kiesters, go directly to the people and GET IT DONE! As wonderful as McClintock is, he is not that leader.

An excellent, realistic, level headed analysis of the situation.

I will vote for whatever "r" is looking like the leader.
I can vote for McClintock... if I had to, and thought it was the only way to win.
Winning is more important than 100 percent score on ideology.
But it won't be close...
And McClintock WILL drop out.
Take it to the bank.
or let me hedge that with he WILL be forced to drop out, of the race, or the party, if he refuses.
the "my way or no way" righty tighties will not be running the party either way... nor will the "lefties" if Arnold wins.
At this point a vote for McClintock is as good as one for bustamove... but I honestly think ARnold will win even if McClintock 'stays in til the bitter end'.
He is about as appealing in his "charisma" as a bottle of phillips MOM... and whether idealogues like it or not... in the day of TV and MEDIA... people, especially moderate women, soccer moms and such vote on "appearance" and "charisma" instead of mathmatical calculation skills.
California is no longer conservative christian enough to elect a "true right winger" like Tom...
I don't actually care though ultimately as long as an R wins.
It's a party thing with me. You cannot govern, if you don't win... even with all the "pretty pretty pretty" ideas and correct moral constructs...
Would you vote for Arnold if Mac dropped out?
Most Mac supporters won't... because for them, Arnold is not conservative enough.

Yes, I would vote for Arnold if McClintock dropped out, but he won't drop out. But if he is not even close three weeks out, I jump ship (breaking my ankle on the way...) and vote Arnold because he is better than Cruz. Arnold is my second choice, and secretly behind the scenes, I believe that most McClintock supporters would vote Arnold if Tom has no chance...however, there are always diehards that will go down with the ship...
But still, it is DAY 14 of a two-month race, and maybe I won't have to jump, break my ankle or strain my knee...and we will be happy for you to come on board our bandwagon...
BTW: You are not alone...alot of people you ask around here say that if it were close they would vote for Tom too...As for me, I just don't give up this early in the fight, otherwise I would be beginning the fight with a big compromise...and things usually go downhill from there...

Most Mac supporters won't... because for them, Arnold is not conservative enough. Dana Rohrabacher has a 92% rating from the American Conservative Union and is a former senior speech writer for President Reagan.
"If they don't have a chance to be elected, they're doing the party a disservice," Rohrabacher said. "Right now is the time for these candidates to look themselves in the mirror and be honest about their chances."

If Arnold has a sex harrament problem, Mclintock should stay in it until the final week waiting for the Dems to play that card-which they undoubtedly will. Uebberoth has to get out now.

And it was Nadar that gave Bush Floridah. It can work both ways.

Giardiello told Fox News that McClintock disagrees with Simon's withdrawal statement that there are "too many Republicans in this race" Music to Democrat ears.
This type of attitude will elect another Dem Governor for sure.

Giardiello said McClintock's strategy depends on "getting his message out" to moderate Republicans and independent voters. And just how does he plan to pull those voters, with the rockheads from the CRA and every whackjob consortium of "true conservatives" eagerly waiting to shriek hysterically at the first deviation from their all or nothing agenda?

Liberals will be going after all conservatives, someone could get hit so it is not a bad idea to have a choice of conservative alternatives, even if not as conservative as we would like. The mix is about right for now (Uebberoth could go). Let's not loose this by friendly fire. Unite later with the one that can win at the critical hour.
