Hello? Is anybody out there?

I just learned I have an ulcer from high acid content in my stomach - brought on by an environment of high proteins & low carbs. Plus, a close friend developed gallstones from the Atkins diet, became addicted to the pain medication, and was a basket case for about two years.

I'm just not sure how much long-term health can be maintained on a diet of meat, eggs & cheese, void of fruits and vegetables.

Read the book. What you are talking about isn't Atkins!

Well it's no surprise that you have health problems following that plan. Whose plan was that anyhow? If you followed the instructions of the Atkins and other mainstream low-carb diets, you would have had plenty of fruits and vegetables.

I've never eaten so many fresh fruits and vegetables in my life on this low-carb plan and I feel great!

Well, that's too bad. Sorry to hear about your ulcer (and your friend).
Certainly no diet is perfect for everyone, and for you and your friend Atkins is apparently not the right choice.

The "no fruit, limited veggies" is just during the induction phase, which lasts just the first few weeks.

One past the induction phase, you begin expanding your diet with veggies and fruits.
