Lyn Nofziger, Senior Advisor to President Reagan, Endorses Tom McClintock for Governor

Lyn Nofziger, Senior Advisor to President Reagan, Endorses Tom McClintock for Governor

A Letter from Lyn Nofziger

Reagan Advisor Lyn Nofziger was the man who got the job done and elected Ronald Reagan as Governor of California in 1966, reversing a series of Republican losses in California and restoring California to greatness.

Dear Friend,

Our State of California is in the national spotlight these days because it appears likely that disgusted voters will recall Governor Davis, the man who put the state in severe financial trouble and doesn’t have either the brains or guts to fix the problems.

Because I spent so much of my political career working with Ronald Reagan, people are asking my opinion of this campaign and the candidates. That’s why I am writing this letter about State Senator Tom McClintock, who is one of the four leading contenders running to replace Davis.

McClintock is the candidate who is unquestionably most knowledgeable about state government and undoubtedly is the most qualified. He is also the only real conservative in the race. He knows what the problems are that a new governor would face and he has a program for solving them.

Were I still in California, I would unhesitatingly vote for him.

McClintock must overcome two problems if he is to be elected. One is money.

If he can raise enough money (and I assure you he will use it wisely), McClintock will be a serious contender.

The other problem is the gossip that he can’t win because of the money problem. With your help he can overcome that.

You may recall that 37 years ago the “experts” were saying the same thing about Ronald Reagan. He couldn’t win.

But Reagan did back then exactly what Tom McClintock is doing today. He went around the state from one city to the next, speaking in plain terms that people could relate to, about how he would fix the problems created by a then Democrat incumbent Pat Brown.

People could see the good and the principled integrity in Ronald Reagan back then just as they see them in Tom McClintock today.

And believe me, California more than ever needs a Governor who is a good and honest person NOW.

There are only a few weeks left before the October 7th Election. That's why I am asking you to help me build a national conservative crusade to fund Tom McClintock’s campaign.

With $38 billion in debt and more on the horizon, California voters can’t afford to make a mistake in this election.

Sincerely, Lyn Nofziger

Hey girl, I saw this and thought you were going to get flamed, nothing really happened except from TheDon, and he and I have an understanding, you're doing well!

Like I've said before, (R)nold's support is broad, but shallow. It perked up again after the supposed "detail" of that sham on Wednesday, and is already dying down here on FR. If nothing else, I see more and more handles piping up in support for Tom McClintock.

Still there are waaaay too many posters on here that still do flame-one of the most articulate proven conservative leaders I've seen since Reagan-on a Conservative posting board, because he's running against someone from antiWar Hollywood! Talk about a strange time we are living in (sure is a good thing you and I have Core principles to see us through). Yeah this is like a Twilight Zone episode, or an X-Files episode....*whistles X-Files Theme*

I have been reading for the last week that those who think McClintock can win are not "politically sophisticated" or do not understand the permutations of what is in effect "a combined primary and general election."

I suggest that Lyn Nofziger knows his way around politics well enough to make an informed judgement. He is more seasoned on that score than the hideous (tax 'em and kill 'em)Warren Buffett, fer sure.

If we like, we can talk about three way races in liberal states where the conservative won.

I'll start the ball rolling:

1980 NY Senate:

Liz Holtzman (D)
Al D'Amato (R)
Jacob Javits (Rino Incumbent)

Winner: D'Amato

Charles Goodell (RINO deluxe and incumbent traitor)

James Lane Buckley (C) Winner: James Lane Buckley

Moderatism is the most lackluster battle-cry

Sorry, I must take exception to your tagline, although I get the point.

NOBODY will die in battle for Moderatism. NOBODY.

Liberals will kill babies in battle. Conservatives will kill liberals. But NOBODY who is moderate will fight--and NOBODY will FIGHT for 'moderatism.'

Dear BE,

While hunting RINOs, you may need one of the following: H&H .375, .410 Express, or .45-90. I can get you any of them, or a smaller but just as effective .30-06. Take your pick.

"RINO Deluxe"

LOL Imagine the possibilities: a Latino RINO could be a RINO del Grande, a Russian RINO would be a Bolshoi RINO; and a German RINO like Schwarzenegger could be eine GrosseRINO!

Yeah. Compared to Lyn Nofziger, George Schultz is a nobody.

Geroge Schulz is best known as a foreign policy guy, and a pretty squishy one at that. Henry Kissinger is no dummy, but if he endorsed Schwarzenegger, it would not mean he was strategically astute.

Nofziger, on the other hand, has been a right hand CAMPAIGN STRATEGIST, for Reagan, not only being one of the top minds on what it takes to WIN, but to win in CALIFORNIA.

George Schulz' judgement on this question means as much as Stephen Hawking's or Warren Buffett's.

Anyone know Dick Wirthlin's take on all this?

He served as Secretary of State, and also Secretary of Treasury, and I know for certain he was President of Bechtel.

His credentials dwarf those of Nofziger.

I'd be more impressed about McClintock if people with the stature of Schultz were stepping forward and endorsing him.

McClintock is a very good and kind and smart man. His conservative positions very good. He has been in politics since college, in California. When not in elected office, he served in a think tank or such.

He has zero private industry experience. Zero, just like Davis and Clinton and Gore. But to be fair, the same is true pretty much for Rohrabacher, Cox, etc.

He is running for CEO/COO of the 5th or 6th largest economy in the world. He failed last November to be elected CFO of this land. I think he's light, for the job of CEO/COO.

Why Arnold? He starts with money, name recognition and personality. Those are not ideological assets, but they are political factors.

He must demonstrate he is fiscally conservative enough, to get votes from the right and the center. He is doing this.

I encourage McClintock to stay in, but near the end if he doesn't stand a chance to win, to endorse Arnold so as to not be a spoiler.
