Pretty hard to get UV to pass through glass; must have been quartz you were working with.

Yep, I guess that's it. Actually the chambers are made of some sort of platic inside the stainless exterior. Glass in contact or proximety of food processing is a no-no. The quartz bulbs are isolated from direct contact. Glass in the plant is a bad thing. I always conformal coated the touch screens on machine controls. It made the X-Y coordinates a little slow to work, but better that than broken glass in meat.
