If you'd like to be on or off this middle east/political ping list, please FR mail me.

The body of Hamas leader Ismail Abu Shanab is carried from his home in Gaza City for his funeral on August 22, 2003. Israel on Friday threatened more attacks on Palestinian militants after its killing of Shanab led major Islamic groups to proclaim the end of a truce crucial for a U.S.-backed peace plan and vow revenge. Faced with the prospect of another vicious cycle of Middle East violence, the United States publicly urged Israel to work with the Palestinian Authority (news - web sites) to crack down on militants -- a call Israeli leaders showed no signs of heeding.
