And with that you got Green stamps and a drinking glass ...
Sometime in late 1972 I was driving through Nevada late at night, and had to get gas. (I had a Mustang with a 390 engine that guzzled it!) I ended up paying 44.9 at a station in Wells, and drove away thinking that I would NEVER pay that price again. And within a few years I was proven right -- and I have NEVER paid that price again!
Ahhh! I remember filling up at the Exxon and watching the guy giving us green stamps, a thermos cup and a free map of Penna. He also said "Happy Motoring" whenever we left, just like the sign on his gas station.
...and, the windshields cleaned and the oil checked...some would even vacuum out the inside.
Soap... from the Sinclair Station, you got a large green brontsaurus soap. And from another, Fuzzy Wuzzy Soap (which I thought was so cool).
From the local 76 station, I got an album of Disney songs. Memorized the heck out of that.
And the best part, you didn't have to pump the gas yourself. The attendant washed your windows and checked your oil while you filled up.
What year? My 1966 Mustang had a 289.Which was the only V8 66 Mustangs came with.
