IRS agents raided the Buckhead home of Grammy winning R&B singer Peabo Bryson Thursday morning in an effort to collect on back taxes, 11Alive News reported exclusively at noon.
Bryson was not at home when agents arrived. About a dozen agents inside the dwelling began taking inventory and tagging his belongings before removing them from the property.
The home is located at 4255 block of Olde Mill Lane.
Papers filed by the IRS and obtained by 11Alive's Jaye Watson indicate the singer owes more than $885,000 in back taxes dating back to the early 1980s.
"The Internal Revenue Service is here today to conduct an official business regarding Mr. Robert Bryson. We have exhausted all means of collecting information as well as revenue that is owed to the Internal Revenue Service and to the government," said IRS Agent Mark Green.
Bryson is a long-time Atlanta resident who lives in a 13-home neighborhood. He is an active member and is in good financial standing with his homeowners' association, Watson learned.
Bryson gained popularity in the 1980's, earning a Grammy award for his duet with Regina Belle, "A Whole New World." The theme for Disney's animated feature "Aladdin" won the 1994 Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, for Pop Duo Or Group With Vocal and for Song For A Motion Picture Of Television. It was also nominated for Song of the Year.

He's got good taste in housing also. I'm sure the IRS lackies will enjoy their stay.

I would take on white supremacist, the homeless, the Russians, the Fedayeen, and Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown before I would mess with the IRS... They do not play...

Is Peabo political? A donator to the Dims by any chance?

Is Peabo political? A donator to the Dims by any chance? Not that I know of - he's pretty quiet overall. Produces a few things; runs in some of the same circles as "Sir Elton" and all, but nothing overtly visible or political as far as I know of.

Just another example of how there are those in the black community that need to get it together...

With the
Fair Tax this kind of government thuggery wouldn't be needed.

Ah! Then you might want to ask the gentleman who posted it why he did so...
I would welcome a discussion on the man's music but I have seen quite a few of these "feel bad if you are black" stories without a response to query of why... Are these cautionary tales or simply human interest?

Look. I don't know you. Never read any of your posts. This is something that is bothering me about all of the negative stories that get posted on this forum that though true, can get used by others in this forum as a reason to put black people down. I think many of the issues raised are quite valid and need to be discussed. It saddens me anytime that a person of any color loses what they have worked for because of taxes and the government, but it even bothers me more if the person is black because things don't always easy to anyone...
I apologize if it seemed that I was race baiting... I think unpaid taxes are a problem and I have seen Redd Foxx and many others end up losing so much...

And I apologize if I misinterpreted your original post. Unpaid taxes are a huge problem for many people, regardless of color. The original amount of taxes owed can easily be multiplied by ten fold with addition of penalties and interest. What starts out as a problem for the taxpayer turns into devastation if not addressed fairly quickly.

Not many people haven’t done a duet with Willie.
