The 'Palestinean people' are an invention of the PLO and cannot be distinguished in any significant way from Arabs in Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, or Saudi Arabia.

Palestine was what the Romans called the area and when the British administered the area, they called it again Palestine. Before that, the region was part of Transjordan.

Hence, the strategy of calling themselves Palis to inure to themselves some sort of historical right to the land, when in fact they are simply Arabs just like any other Arab anywhere else.
