McClintock Responds to Bustamante's "Tough on California" Plan
Tom McClintock for Governor ^ | 8/20/2003 | Tom McClintock

Posted on 08/20/2003 7:29:37 AM PDT by kellynla

Senator Tom McClintock today issued the following response to Cruz Bustamante's "tough on California" statement.

"I was hoping for more of a message of hope and optimism from our Lt. Governor. What California received was more of the failed Gray Davis type leadership from the second most powerful person in the state. When the Lt. Governor says we have to 'sacrifice' he is not kidding. Unfortunately, it is the hard-working, taxpaying families of California that will suffer and not his special interest and public employee union friends.

"At a time when state government is taking a higher percentage of California's personal income than at any time in our history, Mr. Bustamante proposes a TEN BILLION dollar tax increase. This will mean that working families and small businesses will have to find another $1,150 somewhere in their budgets to continue the Sacramento spending spree.

"Much like Governor Davis, who called his illegal tripling of the car tax a 'cut' in state spending, Mr. Bustamante includes the transfer of some $2 BILLION of mandated socialized medicine costs to small businesses as a 'savings' for the state.

"As for my three simple questions that I asked of Cruz this week, it is obvious that he will not join with me in abolishing the car tax, since he is only willing to return about half of what Gray Davis illegally took from motorists. There was nothing tough on energy—as he said nothing about the $42 billion of overpriced power contracts.

"Finally, there was certainly nothing tough on the applicant attorneys and special interests since he did not mention the third major crisis of the Davis administration. My plan to replace California’s broken Workers’ Comp system with the successful Arizona model would save state and local governments at least $2.5 billion annually.

"It’s time Cruz Bustamante explains why we should vote no on the recall but support him for governor. He can’t have it both ways. If he thinks Davis' dismal record is worth defending, he should make that case. If he really wants to replace him, how would he do things differently?"

I was really really really angry with Booze Crustamonte's statement that we all got California into the mess it's in, so we all have to pay! What a jerk. It's the leftist in the Cal. legislature that got us into the mess we're in, and the rest of us are ALREADY paying and paying and paying and paying...

Keep it up, Croooze.

"If McClintock can explain just HOW he will get a 9.5% cut in expendatures ( from his website ) through the legislature, I might consider him." The same way Republicans have been cutting spending for decades with a Rat legislature. Line Item Veto! I don't think anyone was surprised that a tax and spend liberal would raise taxes now were we? I understand the Aunold camp is waiting for the Teleprompter to be delivered so Aunold will be able to read his platform, if he ever comes up with one. It's either going to be a Teleprompter or a ventriloquist. VOTE4MCCLINTOCK or pay the consequences! Only 48 days 'til we DUMP DAVIS! http://www.tommcclintock.com

McClintock Challenges Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante's "Plan"
Just three simple questions: Yes or No!

Sacramento — Senator Tom McClintock today challenged Lt. Governor Bustamante to give straight answers about his plans for California. Senator McClintock has disclosed the details of the three actions he would take during the early hours of a McClintock administration. While Senator McClintock commends the Lt. Governor for distancing himself from Governor Davis on Sunday, the voters of California now deserve some straight answers from Mr. Bustamante. So, Mr. Bustamante, please tell us all:

"First, will you join our effort to completely abolish the car tax once and for all? You failed to vote for my legislation to fully repeal the car tax in the past. Are you now willing to sign one of the petitions I will begin circulating this week? Yes or No?

"Next will you ask the Superior Court to void the $42 billion of outrageously overpriced power contracts? All the new governor will need to do is stipulate to the fact that Governor Davis' chief negotiator, Mr. Vikram Budhraja violated California's conflict-of-interest laws by taking $200,000 from Edison International while working on contracts to save our public utilities from bankruptcy. If the new governor admits what Governor Davis tries to hide, the remedy under the law is for these contracts to be null and void. I filed this lawsuit and will immediately ask the court to void the contracts. Will you take that action on day one of your administration? Yes or No?

"And finally, will you support my plan to implement the Arizona worker's compensation system here in California to save tens of thousands of jobs? A new governor could call a special session, letting the legislators know that he fully intends to take the issue to the voters if the new plan is not passed and on his desk in thirty days. California's current system does not need to be "adjusted" or "reformed" it needs to be replaced. Will you stand up to the trial lawyers and special interests that cause us to have the highest premiums and some of the lowest benefits in the nation? Yes or No?"

I was really really really angry with Booze Crustamonte's statement that we all got California into the mess it's in...

I hope McCLintock and the other conservatives incorporate this into their campaigns. I can see the TV and radio spots now:

"Cruz Bustamonte thinks California's problems are your fault.... Let's fire Grey Davis, Cruz Bustamonte and their tax, borrow and spend cronies... Let's hire responsible leadership for California... etc."

Here's a bttt from a California native in exile. My homeland was hijacked by liberal monsters who stole my liberty, my property, and my future. The only right I had left was the right to leave, so I took it. Apparently, I am not alone.

Here's hoping McClintock can pull off the upset of the century and restore California dreamin' to a reality.

Well you were surprised were you? All I want to know is how anyone can keep their food down and watch the Dimwit Davis and/or Bust-a-girdle? They don't make enough Advil for me to listen to a liberal spout off their bile! Let the liberals know how angry you are, go to Mac's website and make a donation to his campaign, please. He needs all the support he can muster to compete against the two millionaires Aunold and Simon. http://www.tommcclintock.com

"The same way Republicans have been cutting spending for decades with a Rat legislature. Line Item Veto! "

Well, it's not that simple - The Gov cannot simply, say, take a highway appropriation of 100 Mil, and change the number to read 90.5 Mil and pass it on, expecting it to still be built.

How do you "line item veto" the CHP budget down 9.5% ? Fire almost 10% of the force ? Delay maintenence ?

How do you "line item veto" 9.5% of teachers and prison guards saleries without cutting people ?

How do you "line item veto" 9.5% out of MediCal ? ...
"Sorry, the Gov. just red penciled your heart operation - could you wait 18 months or so ?"

If you can't tighten everyones belt by the 9.5% he speaks of, you have to completely cut other things off -
So let him tell us just which 10% of the Government he intends to close.

Thanks. I was about to send Hannity a nasty email for bumping Tom last night, but still had time to show Ahrnold's "campaign" comercial and talk to Art Torres.

Hannity & Alien better hope nothing else "comes up" on the 22nd, or taste my wrath!

Obviously, he has to look for money spent on bureaucracy. The good news for Californians is that such is easy to find. Over one third of educational expenses never leave Sacramento. How about cutting free sex change operations or money spent on consultants "teaching tolerance"? There are plenty of pork projects in the environmental arena. Then there is cutting land purchases. Finally, how about that $42 billion in illegal power contracts?

All of those are line items. They add up.

Unlike any other candidate, McClintock knows where the bodies are buried.

Please see my post # 14

Voiding the Car Tax dosen't save any government money.

Voiding the Contracts saves little government money.

Replacing Workers Comp saves little government money.

Just where will his cuts be ?

Fine... let McClintock say this - I want HIM to get this specific, and lets see his numbers.

The power contracts are not part of the budget and cost the State relatively little.
