There is something to be said for this strategy. They can't nail you for something you didn't say. They can't twist words that didn't come out of your mouth. Mums the word. If you can't keep mum keep it vague. If you must move from vaguery, keep it in the most general sense possible. If pressed for specifics, have your secretary remind you of a pressing engagement or just do the "Sorry, I'm out of time. It's been great to be here with you, but I really have to run- campaigning is hard work! I love you folks..."
