I had the same problem. I had a teacher who forced us to subscribe to the New York Times. I took it, then proceeded to mock it everyday. I doubted its credibility, and eventually had my whole class making fun of the paper.
This might not be the wisest thing, but you could note, at least once a day, use the phrase, in regards to anything the Times says "yea, but it is the times, you do have to take that with a grain of salt". Proceed, to say you have doubts about there accuracy, and use the phrase, in regards to Times statements "alledged" or "Well, supposedly,".
Eventually, your class, will even realize how inaccurate, and hopefully, also realize how damn lazy the Times is.
Side note, why are you paying for the paper? They do have the Times online, and alot of high school, usually do subscribe to the paper anyway.

I don't understand the problem. If I have to read the goddamned
Times every day, why do you think you should get off the hook? If you can't deal with reading people you disagree with, you're no better than the socialists. However, if you are seriously opposed to the
Times (as you appear to be), you have to read it, class or no class.
As for how you are to carry yourself in class, that's a judgment call you'll have to make on the ground. You might try politely bringing up, that you discovered that a Times story was misreported, or omitted essential facts, see what sort of reaction you get, and take it from there.

Better yet, just buy this and hold it up in class:
Journalistic Fraud, by Bob Kohn "It didn't start with Jayson Blair: how the New York Times routinely slants the news and twists the facts to promote the Left's agenda "

Prayer Request for A Tiny Baby
Then your "vanity": Any suggestions?
Read the friggin thing then grow up, stop whining and get a life......

BTW, if you have to use the NYT still, get your own newspaper and compare its daily news coverage to the Times.
Turn it in as an assignment to the teacher and ask what he thinks of your critical thinking skills.

Make sure you read/share the first chapters of Dick Morris's (Clinton's advisor) OFF WITH THEIR HEADS. It will give you a lot factual materials to share with your teacher.
Morris tells it like it is!

Yes the paper is a liberal rag and is not worth the paper it was printed on but I suggest getting the darned thing and doing the assigned work and not whining about it.

Just for the sake of being different I'm going to suggest that you cut class, hang out in a vacant lot, and drink beer.

For one class in law school we were given the choice of NYT or Wall Street Journal. Many of us just subscribed to both.
No reason you can't have ammo to show the absudity of the NYT.
To: sdk7x7
Sounds like more of a shakedown. There is no reason to require everyone to subscribe. Students can go to the library.
Tellm to get there kickbacks from someone else!

My best suggestion is to pick and choose among the NYPost editorial articles. Pick several good ones, copy them at your own expense (it will cost you no more than two dollars), and then pass them out to your classmates in class, just before the bell rings. There is no law against it, and your teacher will go bizzonkers. Do it regularly.
What could be more fun?
Trust me on this one.
You can't lose with the Daniel Pipes articles. And Michelle Malkine is sure to have your teacher a coronary.
Have fun!

Sign up then privately cancel. For assignments, go read it in the library.

Consider this to be opposition research. Some freepers check out the NYT daily and God bless them. Hopefully, an internet purchase could be allowed. If you whine about 'tree killing', your teacher might buckle. Then you can compare NYT with another paper you agree with.
To: sdk7x7
I think they may have a free 30 day trial on their website...all the same articles as you find in print. That should get you through the class.

"...This year (I'll be a senior), one of the requirements for my AP Gov't and Politics course..."
If you continue political education, you are walking into the lion's den. We need some young freepers to get political education. Ultimately, you might need to pretend to be a liberal. Just as Joshua sent spies into Jericho, you might need to infiltrate the college cesspool in its worst places. Keep a journal on it. Coded to make it sound as though you think liberal bias is kool. Most liberal political types are snoopy enough to peek in your diary. Later, you could make a book out of it. And pray silently every night that God shield your soul.

Just print out a couple of articles from FREEREPUBLIC complete with comments and tell him/her that this is the best source of news and veiws thats available !
