I remember fondly the family that used to accompany my battery to the field. They set up their tent and sold various foodstuffs, cigarettes and sodas. Every soldier augmented their mess rations with ramyun, made boiling hot with american cheese and red pepper on top, and kimchi.

We swore by the stuff for its laxative effect. It was the only thing that could counteract MRE's.

Ahjimah would be out there in the assembly area with warm Cokes in 10-oz. bottles, Moon Pies, and Turtle Ship cigarettes before you even got your vehicle shut down.

Remember Turtle Ships and Pine Tree menthols? You knew it was time to whine to go to the rear when your Marlboros and Salems ran out.

Team Spirit '83 First Tank TOC lived for a week on a case of ramen given to our BN CDR by some ROK COL along with kimche "acquired" by our KATUSAs. The HHC 1SG couldn't find us to feed us for 5 days.
