Bustamante would exempt the first $20,000 of the vehicle's value from the recent tripling of the fee. Davis said the increase was triggered by the state's fiscal woes, but it is being challenged in court and possibly with a ballot initiative.

Looks like Bustamante and Grayout did not kiss and makeup. Cruz does this hours before Doofus' speech to boot. Grayout has got to be livid. LOL...

My thoughts exactly. He's not the brightest bulb in the room and all people heard was how more is going to come out of their wallets. And that "its all for the chirrun" line sounds so rehearsed. Large Breasts is a political hack who can't even make liberal policy proposals sound attractive when he speaks.

Well, I have to give him credit. He announced up front that he's going to tax the heck out of you.

I think it was Large Breasts' payback for Davis undermining his own campaign. I bet he didn't bother to clear his politically incendiary proposals with the Gov. Hey its fun watching the Dems eat their own.

He's the first honest liberal politician since Walter Mondull. I have to give him credit for bringing back the Democrats tax and spend image from the grave. Trust me, Republicans couldn't make this work if they tried. This is good news!!!

I'm visiting my folks this week in Lost Angeles - I am interested in knowing where they're going to get the $$$ to pay for the new round of taxes.

"The folks at the top have to pay their fair share,"

Like they're not already paying MORE than their fair share? Good going, Crooooze. Let's drive more of the top earners out of the state, taking their businesses (and jobs) with them.

Yep. Payback's a Hillary. As to eating their own, the GOP are also doing a fine job of it too. Oh well, the more things change...

Bustamante Unveils 'Tough Love' Plan

Plan Includes $8 Billion In New Taxes, $4.5 Billion In Cuts

POSTED: 12:38 p.m. PDT August 19, 2003
UPDATED: 12:48 p.m. PDT August 19, 2003

ELK GROVE, Calif. -- Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante, a candidate in the Oct. 7 recall election, has outlined his plan to fix California's budget problems.

Bustamante spoke to reporters outside his Elk Grove home Tuesday morning, and said he'll bring some "tough love" to the governor's office if he's elected.

"I call it 'Tough Love For California.' Here's how it works: The folks at the top have to pay their share. The folks at the bottom have to pay something, and the people being squeezed in the middle need some relief from car taxes and college fees," he said.

Bustamante's plan includes nearly $8 billion in new taxes and fees, along with $4.5 billion in cuts or savings.

He called on his rivals in the recall election to have a plan of their own.

"Not one ... not Arnold ... not me ... not Bill Simon ... not Peter Ueberroth ... not Tom McClintock ... no one running for this recall election should be allowed to campaign without offering their specific and complete plan to fix it ... all of it," Bustamante said.

On Monday, Bustamante received endorsements from the California State Employees Association and the California
Association of Highway Patrolmen.

The influential Latino Legislative Caucus has voted unanimously against recall but in support of Bustamante, the state's highest ranking Hispanic official.

California's tax burden is already too high. The tax burden is over $120 for every $1000 of personal income. Eighth highest in the nation.

Anybody who hasn't heard what McClintock's plan is by now has been hiding under a rock. (Hmmm. That might explain where they got Cruz ...)

Bustamante is trying to endear himself to his core constituency by sticking it to the rich, and exempting vehicles valued at less than $20,000. Of course, cigarette taxes tend to be extremely regressive, and so he's taking it out of their pocket, anyway.

I don't think he did himself any favors with this announcement, but he did California a favor. It's on notice that the citizens and businesses will be poorer if he gets elected.

"The folks at the bottom have to pay something."

This is hilarious ! The folks at the bottom don't have anything ( that's what being on the bottom means ) and in most cases they are the ones taking from the system.

Could he mean cutting welfare ?
