A Winning Strategy for Tom McClintock (Promise to Crack Down on Illegal Immigration)

(Note: If you are an Arnold supporter this thread is NOT for you to debate about Arnold - please go on another thread to argue about McClintock vs Arnold. Thank you for your attention.)
This is my first editorial on FR so here it goes:
Right now the main problem for team McClintock is not Arnold Schwarzenegger, but Bill Simon.
Simon is the largest threat to McClintock because he is siphoning off Conservative votes that would surely go to McClintock.
In order to have any chance to win the Governorship, McClintock will have to neutralize the threat coming from Simon.
McClintock must first fight Simon before he can defeat Bustamante, and here is how Tom can do it:
1) From now, until team McClintock thinks it has taken away a large amount of Conservative voters from Simon, the McClintock campaign should concentrate all of it's energy by attacking Simon for being weak on illegal immigration.
Illegal Immigration is not being discussed by all of the other main candidates - even though polls indicate that voters are absolutely desperate to hear any candidate who will offer a solution to the wave of illegal immigration which has played a key role in bringing the state into fiscal chaos.
But what is key for any Republican candidate is that the people who are the most eager to hear a border control policy are Conservative Republicans i.e. the voters who most strongly support Bill SImon.
So far Bill SImon has said that he will do virtually nothing to try and get illegal immigration, and the problems caused by it, under control - and in my opinion this is his greatest weakness.
If McClintock comes out and runs on a strong border control platform, he will take away virtually all of Simon's potential voters just because Simon is weak on this single issue; an issue which Conservative Republicans are dying to have addressed by their party.
Here are some proposals for a McClintock Anti-Illegal Alien platform
A) Propose either to appeal proposition 187 to the Supreme Court, or order a new referendum on a whole new version of Prop 187. B) Propose to Deploy either the national guard and/or California police officers to patrol the California-Mexico border from illegal aliens. C) Promise that should McClintock win, he will Refuse to grant driver's licenses to illegal aliens. D) Promise that should McClintock win, he will try to prevent recognition of the Matricula Consular card in the state of California.
2) Try and get on a large National Talk Radio Show, Like Rush Limbaugh and/or the Sean Hannity show, and announce a strong platform of cracking down on illegal immigration in front of a large national audience. (When interviewed on Talk Radio primarily attack Bill Simon on his weak stance on Illegal Immigration; Simon should be mentioned by Name when McClintock is doing interviews!)
3) Then go on every major Conservative talk radio show in the state of California in order to get McClintock's border control message out.
Instead of going on many different radio shows, concentrate on appearing multiple times on the shows that have the largest audience in California - Such as The John and Ken Show, The Dennis Prager Show, The Bob Dornan Show , etc., etc.
This way McClintock will have his message given the most exposure possible in the State of California, and not waste his time appearing on little listened to shows.
4) Don't Spend ANY money on TV ads because the McClintock team doesn't have enough money to compete with Schwarzenegger, Davis, or Simon.
5) Instead, Use all of the $1.5 million in the McClintock coffers to create GOTV campaign that will turn out as many Republicans as possible in the most Conservative areas in the state.
Remember! - The people who will be turning out the most heavily in this election will be Republicans who are tired of Gray Davis. Republicans will have FAR more reason to show up to the polls than Democrats will.
6) Write articles to major California newspapers and outline in detail what a Governor McClintock would do to fight illegal immigration.
7) Let Davis and Simon and Bustamante worry about Arnold for the immediate future. Let Simon attack Schwarzenegger from the right, and let Bustamante and Davis attack him from the left, while the McClintock Campaign consolidates it's base by attacking Simon for being weak on Illegal Immigration until McClintock gets most of Simon's Conservative base of support.
8) The one problem with this strategy is if Schwarzenegger comes out with a strong Anti-Illegal Immigrant platform, he will take the wind out of the sails of the above strategy and he will prevail in the recall election (However I don't believe Arnold will do this because I believe he is a liberal).

Good thoughts, Pubbie. Unfortunately, three problems: illegal immigration isn't what's on the minds of most Californians; illegal immigration isn't the issue which has fueled the recall; and there really needs to be a national debate about illegal immigration, not one confined to California. Although saving Prop 187 would be worth bringing up.

Actually, polls indicate Prop 187 would pass by an even larger margin than it did in 1994.
Also a lot of friends of mine who live in California say that EVERYONE there is sick of illegal immigrants even democrats.

This reminds me of the Ross Perot supporters who succeeded in getting Bill Clinton elected in 92. I am not saying that Mc Clintock and Simon aren't men of good strong conservative values, but in California that isn't the name of the game. Arnold may not be a conservative, but as California Governor, he wont have anything to say on social issues. It's the financial mess that has to be cleared up and if Mc Clintock and Simon persist, it will be Bustamante's problem and that is as they say "Maam, just the facts".

He's the only decent candidate running...

"The recall's main focus is on fiscal issues, and Tom seems to have that one laid down pretty well."
Yes but immigration is on everyone's mind - particularly Conservative Republicans who are for the moment, supporting Bill Simon and to a lesser extent Ueberoth (sp?).

But, but, concentrating on the illegals will cost him the votes of all the illegals. Ask Bob Dornan about the effects of that strategy.
To: Pubbie
If we fix the ILLEGAL immigration problem, we fix the budget. Illegals are glogging our hospitals, schools, and prisons. And the argument that they're paying taxes is a bunch of BS. They don't pay income taxes - they make too little money. They don't buy new vehicles or clothes - they just recycle their old crappy stuff to each other at garage sales. They're just a drain on our system.

Exactly - if McClintock comes out against illegal immigrants, he'll have the Conservative vote in his pocket (ALong with many independent voters.)
