Hinds County taxpayers moved a step closer to a tax increase Monday when supervisors approved advertising a proposed 2.5-mill hike.
And Myrtle Bowen of Jackson is not happy about it.
"They just keep grabbing for that tax money, don't they?" Bowen asked. "I am not for any tax increase."

This could be said nearly anywhere these days, as governments "struggle" to find revenues to meet "public services."

Is Yazoo raising taxes too, WKB? Hinds is raising property taxes, and people are leaving there for neighboring counties. I think that they are leaving more for the crime rate than the tax schedule, however.

Not yet!
But with the closing of K amrt and the bankruptcy of Ms Chemical Corp the two biggest tax payers in the county. I am sure it won't be long.
