History is full of these ironies. General NB Forrest was the honored speaker to the Organization of the Pole Bearers in Memphis about 1874. This organization was the precursor to the NAACP. The contemporaries of Forrest knew more and were more forgiving and understanding than the entire NAACP and Black Caucus of today.
One thing I fail to comprehend is how folks today can demean and tarnish the reputation of these great Americans. Just a few years ago, the folks closer to those men, on both sides, saw the benefit of unity and chose to close ranks with their brothers.
Political agendas, power, and money might be the motivator for these present-day revisionists and their game. They make profit by twisting the stories and sacred memory of these brave men. The sell books, push programs, and masquerade as "educators" or "historians." Sadly, many folks believe their spiteful tales and choose not to believe otherwise.
