I know there are detractors to this position around FR. I am intrigued by this (official line) position. I have heard several tenuous reasons but none have convinced me. Saying Allah is Great instead of God is Great as an example of a clumsy anglo attempt is often cited. But if you look at the signs handed out by the Shiites in Baghdad rallys, and at Palestinian mobs, you will see in english - GOD IS GREAT, too. My Father in law is a Baghdadi christian but he still writes in unsteady, sloppy hand or all caps. As for the targets not being republicans, well, this operation was planned up to two years before it came off, so noone would have thought that Clinton/Gore would not be around in some fasion and the Dems in charge of congress. Also, the attach at American Media may have been a too literal interpretation of orders. If you take the point of view that 9/11 was an act of war upon the US, intending to destroy our economy, our military, and our seat of government, then anthrax attacks coinciding with the aftermath fit perfectly. Occams razor suggests believing the bast*%$d when he claimed doing this in the name of radical islam and hatred of Israel and the west.
