Woman, 2 daughters commit suicide in front of train

Monday, August 18, 2003 at 03:00 JST SENDAI — A 42-year-old woman and her two daughters, aged 13 and 12, died Sunday after being run over by a train in Miyagi Prefecture in what is believed to be a suicide pact, police said.

The driver of the train — who saw the three huddled together on a JR Joban Line track in between Okuma and Watari stations in the town of Watari shortly after midnight Saturday — applied the brakes but could not avoid hitting them, the police said.

Police believe the three went to the crossing with the intention of killing themselves as the driver of the train said they made no attempt to flee the oncoming train.

"They just stood on the track and didn't attempt to escape," officers quoted the driver as saying.

After investigating the crossing in Watari, Miyagi Prefecture, police said the three left their home, where the mother's husband lives, in Kakuda, Miyagi Prefecture, by car a few days ago. (Wire reports)

It is extremely difficult to even comment on a post such as this.

All I can really say is.. . Why?

Suicide is not the answer.

this kind of stuff happens all the time.

and, by the way, there is probably no possibility that the daughters wanted to commit suicide. they were murdered....then the mother off'ed herself. they call it 'muri shinju' in Japan as if the minor dependents of crazy people have no say in their own right to continue life.
