Either we get this under control

What action plan do you recommend to get this under control?

Tancredo wants 20,000 Border Guards on the Mexican border. At $50,000 per, that's $1 billion in salaries and benefits. Add $10,000 more for training, that's another $200 million, they're going to need vehicles, comunications infrastructure, processing stations and holding cells to be build all along the border.

So, is Tancredo crafting a bill authorizing this major deployment? Has he determined an adequate funding appropriation number? Has he lobbied DeLay, Hastert or the relevant Appropriation chairman to get a hearing, a markup, a place in the docket? Does he have 218 votes for this proposal, at this $billion investment?

Nah, he just thought he'd throw it out as a good idea that George W. Bush should, but won't, implement. Even though it's HIS job to write bills with appropriate funding with the language and details that 218 of his colleagues would vote approval for.

That's hard work. That takes salesmanship, compromise, building consensus, making tradeoffs and fighting for money. Tom's got the Boortz show, Buchanan and Press and Larry Elder gigs to focus on. It's about Tom Tancredo's earnest concern. It's about Tom Tancredo.

Employing someone at 50K costs an employer about 100K. Given that and your extras, assume 2.5 billion dollars.

With 280 million people, guessing 7 of 10 pay taxes, that makes this national security outlay about $12.75 a head.

I'd say our national security is worth a movie for two once a year.

P> According to FOX News, “Last spring, he launched an e-mail petition drive calling for the deployment of as many as 20,000 federal troops to the 6,000 miles of northern and southern U.S borders.”

So, that was for both borders. Plus, $50K sounds a little high for a typical soldier. Where did you get that number?

OK, just for kicks, let’s say it costs a billion a year; That’s about $10 per taxpayer. With all the stupid things Bush has been spending our money on, (including sending $15 billion of our money to Africa just because those people can’t it through their heads that you’re not suppose to stick things where they don’t belong) I’d say $10 is a great deal.

If the federal government won’t perform one of its most basic and vital functions - protecting out borders, then tell me where to send my $10 to someone who will. I’ll even make it $20 to make up for people like you.

A country that does not enforce the security of its borders ceases to be a nation!

I sure think that a fedgov that can give away 15 billion(?) dollars of money we don't have to some Africa nations to supposedly fight AIDS could sure find a way to come up with a fraction of that to help secure our borders. Maybe some folks don't think it's a big deal but I'm sure anyone with loved ones living on the border who have to cope with break-ins, property destruction and theft and who knows what other mayhem would strongly support any Bush admin. efforts to protect our citizens in that area.

Sounds like a bargain to me. We're already paying more than ten times that already for services and benefits to illegal aliens.

Yet Bush can easily find $15 billion for AIDs treatments in Africa. Pretty much sums up what the priories of this president are. Doesn't it Arne? Shipping billions of American Taxpayer dollars to African Tribes, most of which are consumed with cutting each others throat, for a disease that is 100% avoidable (unlike most diseases) is more important to Bush than executing his constitutionally *Mandated* duties to protect and defend OUR nation from foreign invasion. Interesting, isn't it?

Meanwhile Bush can't seem to find the money in his RECORD BREAKING Budget to fully fund medical care for our Veterans. With this president it sometimes seems like Clinton never left. Ever wonder why so many of Clinton's appointees are STILL floating around our State Dept.? I have a good guess on that. What's yours?
