</WASHINGTON - In a few weeks, the U.S. Treasury Department is expected to decide whether it needs to rethink a rule allowing banks to accept foreign-issued identification cards - specifically the one issued by Mexico. To Latino and immigrant advocacy groups, the decision could indicate the White House position on the Mexican ID card (matricula consular) and could boost or undermine Republican Party Hispanic outreach efforts.\>

I fear that the administration will OK the use of the Mexican ID card and this will only serve to bring even more illegals into the country. I would suggest contacting our "leaders" in DC but they fear this issue and will not take a stand.

Well, from what the article says, and from other things I've read, they currently are accepting the cards, but Congress is applying pressure (believe it or not!) to get them to forbid banks from accepting them.

"Congress is applying pressure (believe it or not!)"
Ah yes, The House GOP (God Bless them) is actually much more skeptical about Karlos Rova's "Hispandering" "Strategy" than the lame-stream media would lead you to believe.
In fact in August of 2001, the House GOP was ready to fully rebel against Rove's "Amnesty" proposal for illegal aliens:

The single most valuable item in the world is US citizenship.
The second most valuable item in the world is US residency.
I am sick and tired of having it stolen.
This is as serious an issue as an armed invasion.

Having had family go through U.S. immigration proceedings the LEGAL way, I have no mercy on MEXICANS or anyone else who think they are better than we are. Let THEM do it the LEGAL way.
That said, former Senator Gramm's plan for work visas would be a big help, and bring Mexican migrant workers into the tax structure, thus helping to pay for all their emergency room costs.....
