The Jeffersonian vision of a nation of small independent farmers is dead, gone, impossible. The industrial revolution, the demographic explosion, technical advance, massive immigration of non-Western Europeans have changed America and the world permanently. We can't go back. We can't look back. What we can do is try to mold the new world and its new institutions to accomodate our values.Perhaps your right. I've got an idea, why not take the "written in stone" concept out of our constitution and make it "living and breathing" so it is more prone to change to accomodate?
