Florida jobless rate falls to 5.3%

By Rafael Gerena-Morales

Posted August 16 2003

Florida's unemployment rate improved to 5.3 percent in July from a revised 5.4 percent in June, as the Sunshine State added more than 85,000 jobs in the most recent 12-month period, marking 16 consecutive months of growth. And that momentum carried into South Florida, where Palm Beach County posted among the state's strongest job growth.

...In Florida, the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton statistical area, and Orlando, both created more than 17,000 jobs in the most recent 12-month period, leading the state in job creation.

In Palm Beach County, financial, construction and warehouse companies are expanding, said Ken Montgomery, president of the Palm Beach Workforce Alliance, which helps county residents find work. July's job figures are "very encouraging," he said.

PS I don't know CA's jobless rate, but I heard that state loses 10,000 jobs each month now.

I still think that Jeb would make a better President than GW.

I notice that Jeb allowed a bill to pass that raised the table stakes for poker games from a meager $10 total to allowing bets of $2.00 and three raises per betting round. Good move. But Florida needs to become even MORE casino friendly to get more toursists down here.

Yeah, but I notice he did not sign that law. I think he let it pass, but other such laws may not get by him. I am not partically eager to make FL a gambling capital. Too many other problems come along with that, IMO.

Yeah, but I notice he did not sign that law. I think he let it pass, but other such laws may not get by him.

I hope not. We need MORE GAMBLING in Florida. How ridiculous is it that people from here fly out to Biloxi just to do some Casino gambling?

I am not partically eager to make FL a gambling capital.

I am. People want to GAMBLE while on vacation.

Too many other problems come along with that, IMO.

Like tons of money that will enter the state once we have normal casino gambling. That's a problem I would like.

And like prostitution. As a teacher, I am not eager to see any more students from moms who are prostitutes. Sorry!

You guys know him better than I do but from what I have heard and somewhat seen I think he is more conservative than George W is. It is funny. Barbara and I think George W's dad even thought Jeb would be the one to run for a higher office and get elected first as governor. That is how things happen lol.

My first instinct is that people will not accept another Bush as President (at least in the next dozen years or so) simply because of the dynasty thing. But Jeb is doing SO WELL.

I hope that by 2008 we have even more balanced media so that we can drown out the cries of "dynasty!" and people can hear what he's done. I think Jeb is purposely ignored by the media so as not to boost W.
