Edwards AFB Computers Shut Down

Computer systems at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., were shut down this week as a result of the "Blaster" computer worm.

The desert base is home to the Air Force Flight Test Center, which conducts work on the B-2 and B-1B bombers, the airborne laser, the Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicle, the new F-22 Raptor jet fighter, the Joint Strike Fighter and other high-tech weapons.

Firewall, anyone? Sheesh! If the military is that vulnerable, some heads definitely need to roll in the USAF's IT sections.

How do they get infected?

Other than that, don't they have the most rudimentary of firewalls and virus protection with daily updates?

I'm a computer idiot, so none of it makes much sense to me.

I attend graduate school with an I.T. Tech at EAFB. On Tuesday evening he came to class, stating that after class was over he was headed back to Edwards to spend the evening purging the worm from their systems.

I spoke with him last evening, and his task was long and arduous.

I work for an Aerospace Manufacturer in So. Calif., and our systems fought it off valiantly.
