I have not idea where this will end up, but here it goes.
My father had been in a coma since last January. After 2 weeks a staff of egotisical medical doctors asked our family to stop feeding him. If we were going to keep feeding him, then we needed to move him to a nursing facility in 3 days. If we were willing to pull the feeding tube, he could remain in the hospital until he died, which would be about 2 weeks. We found this to be very morbid.
He is receiving food and humidified air. He is not on a respirator or any other life sustaining equipment.
This family of 8 children and a loving wife stepped in and do so til this day to monitor his care.
Our point to the doctors was firm and simple. My father is entitled to have what it takes them to survive. Food and Water. When anyone of these doctors could survive without these basics, then we'll talk. Until then, our stand has been to feed him without question. If my father is with us tomorrow then we are here to care for him. Aside from resting in a coma. The following labs are documented as "good" if not "excellent". Blood Pressure, Hemoglobing, Kidney function, Colon, Stomach (we even had an old stomach issue repaired for him while he rested in coma), Potassium/Sodium levels, Heart, Skin, Circulation, Oxygen is a beautiful 98-100%. His old skin restored itself to that of a 20 year old, his hair is darker, and the list goes on.
We perform our own range of motion to be sure it is done, we get him into a wheelchair every other day. And we have manage to bring our dedicated nursing staff in our realm of thinking. The fate of my father is up to God not the doctors.
We have already given my father permission to leave should that be his choice. We have communicated with the Brain Injury Institute to get educated. My father hears all that goes on in his room. We meet with no doctors regarding his care. Our journey has been an endless stream of miracles. Nobody has any right to determine anothers "quality of living" based on their own assumptions. We will not determine this for my father.
The Pope himself demands all people be given food and water. To give less than that is premeditated murder. Pure and simple.
We should all be concerned. May Terry's family win this battle. May God bring down his hand on those of power and ego who dare tread to end her life. My prayers are with her family. May God protect the positive from the negative. We have a voice, lets use it on behalf of Terry. This could be the plight of any one of us or someone we dearly love.
