Going for a distinctive look, the Air Force unveiled the proposed new utility uniform Aug. 6. The predominantly blue-and-gray uniform uses a tiger-stripe pattern reminiscent of the tiger-stripe uniform worn by the South Vietnamese during the Vietnam War. Many U.S. troops at that time adopted the same look.

Note the copying of the distinctive shape of the Marine Corps cover.

Why do most Air Force personnel even need a camouflage uniform? This is more zoomie silliness.

Well, on an Air Force installation, it's a whole lot better than green. Lots of greys to blend with...

I remember when they painted all our Herky Birds grey...we wondered why...the old color was green. They explained that, since the veritable collapse of the Soviet Union, we had dominance over the skies. Therefore, we'd be less likely to need ground cammo colors and they went with grey to blend with the sky...

Great camo should blend in nicer with typewriters and other Airforce battle thingies :)

I stated in another forum that this was Marine envy. The picture there had a chick in a black beret. Now that I see this picture, I see I was right.

Aside from PJ's and FAC's who actually work down in the weeds, USAF personnel dont need cammies - especially blue cammies. The only pressing need for change that I see would be something user-friendly for the maintainence and ramp guys.

Geeze, a new Air Farce uniform, ain't that speshul.

Where are all the gold ropes, gold braid on the sleeves, shoulder boards, collar devices, and hat emblems? Oh, it's AF, make that silver.

No, but the rank devices on the sleeve will be made larger.

They need something that will blend in with ugly WW II surplus mustard colored file cabinets and off white concrete block walls. Add a little rust color to blend in with the water. (And yes I have worked on an AF base.)

As a retired Air Force person, I can assure you that most Air Force members do need a utility uniform, especially now that we've moved out of our cold war era fixed bases and into various desert bare bases.

I do agree that the hat as shown is an embarrassing copy of the USMC hat.

I agree totally that Air Force folks need a utility uniform. I just don't see the utility of a camouflage uniform on a traditional, or even most expeditonary airfields.

How do you get UN out of this? It looks like what is commonly referred to as 'urban camo' to me. No tinfoil needed.

"...ironing and starch all will be a part of the past. "

That's a joke. I don't think anyone in the AF has used either since the Air Corps was a part of the US Army.
