City-County Council President Phil Borst has called for mass resignations from Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library Board members, the latest development in a controversy many say has severely damaged the library system's reputation.
Pointing to years of infighting, the April firing of CEO Ed Szynaka and new questions about the handling of lucrative library contracts, Borst said it is time for significant leadership changes. He wants six of the board's seven members to step down.

Does anyone know anything about this? I am not from Indy and I was wondering?

All I know is that according to their on-line catalogue, the library system bought over 80 copies of Hilliary's book. That tells you a lot.

No, more likely just more proof of the kind of people who work in our library systems. You want to elevate your BP some time, ask about acquisitions, how much and who chooses, and how the money's spent. And be prepared to threaten legal action when they try to blow you off should you have the temerity to ask.

My Father-in-Law, working for a conservative newspaper, went in to our local library as a free lance writer. He asked about how books were chosen. After the lady explained that they were chosen off a list provided by the American library association and that any book can be traced through this system, my father-in-law asked if he could pick a couple of books so she could show him how it works. The lady said yes. He brought back "I have two mommies" (which was in the kids section). She stopped the interview, as it was obviously not obtain through their "normal" manner. Not that I trust the American library association to pick out books, but it is interesting how local librarians just find it ok to pick any book they want as a matter of "free speech".
The other thing I find funny is that libraries are always preaching against censorship, yet, someone has to choose the books that go into the library. Is this in and of itself not censorship as a person has to choose which books to put in the library and thus exclude other books not put into the library???
