Actually we can "see" the echo from the Big Bang. It is the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) Radiation. Sometimes noted as CMBR also.

I've read that, like ripples coming back off the bank of a lake, the reverberations are apparant...but wht I'm getting at is the actual event may have burnt itself out and it's direct evidence (that hubblesque technology would be able to detect) may have already blew by us, gone for good.
