This is absolutely fishy it stinks...nothing is going to convince me there isn't more to this story.
Would you expect the government to come out and say "yup, it's terrorism" if they could at all deny it? They would cause a panick if they did.
They're trying to keep people calm until they get home.
In my view this is a terrorist attack until proven otherwise.
I don't agree - many of us in the utility industry have expected this type of event for the last few years - ever since someone in Washington decided that each utility's wholly-owned portion of the transmission grid should become a common carrier for everyone else's electricity. Reliability isn't a goal any longer - its not profitable.
