I think when they said "no terrorism," they meant no bombs, airplanes, grenades, or mortars, etc. What they cannot know is whether someone had taken control of a key computer and simply altered a few control settings. Did you see the post about the Valley Forge grid station operator wondering why the outage wasn't stopped sooner by the computers in NY and Canada? This cascaded way out of control too fast. I can't imagine the system being engineered to allow this, given the ability of computers to react quickly. But, maybe Homer Simpson was on duty today.

I'm particularly wondering about that in light of all we here in CA have learned over the last couple years about the power system and grid, the balancing that's done, the computers involved, etc. But maybe, as another poster said, some of the infrastructure just couldn't handle it.
