If the incident concludes with your Dad whipping his smarmy a$s, then I can't wait to read it!

Well, I didn't save it, so here goes. Dad was military attaché at the Canadian embassy in Rome from 1969 to 1972. One weekend in 1969 or 1970 or so he was on weekend duty there, the big shots took turns being in charge for the weekend. Jennings was a roving reporter of some sort for ABC (he'd had the job he has now, briefly, some years earlier, but they decided he was too young or something.) He came roaring into the embassy having lost his wallet and his passport. He expected an immediate new passport and a loan! Dad had to patiently explain that the embassy couldn't produce a passport until Monday (it was a weekend, Pete!), and the embassy doesn't lend money to Canadians who get into trouble (this was before ATM's, of course), but Dad did look up some Roman banks that were open on Saturday. Jennings got quite unpleasantly huffy, but I guess Dad (who knew who Jennings was) just maintained his cool. So Jennings went off all upset. When he came back Monday, he apparently had cooled down considerably and was downright pleasant, and they parted amicably. But Dad was still upset years later at the pompous meanness. Boring, huh?
