Any polls out there? Interesting about the talk to rescind car tax - could it be Tom's having an effect?

RR, well, sorry to tell you, but you are going to get some FR people (RINOs, etc) on here who will ignore your polite and reasonable request that they do not bash your candidate, and try to keep this thread pure and enjoyable for supporters of TM and of your effort. You might give a heads up to the Administration Moderator to ask he/she to delete disruptor's posts that for no reason meander into the discussion and start trouble or otherwise go against your very fair and clear wishes stated up front and the very reason for this thread to be for the purpose of the McClintock people. Good luck to you.

as a quid pro quo, perhaps we can start the protocol that other's FR threads put up in support of Simon or Arnold or whomever, would also enjoy the same respect and would not be disrupted. hopefully we can all come to a meeting of the minds on this before election. in other words, general debate and argument about the campaign is fine, but some threads ought to be for the exclusive enjoyment and organization of their supporters, and thus, off limits, protocol wise, to opponents who just want to cause trouble and disrupt the thread. if we can work this out mutually, it would say a lot about the class of FRee Republic and its members, IMHO.

Thanks - so far it has worked out pretty well. I think most people on this post just ingore any attempts to get a rant going. It's a pretty quiet post. I think alot of people want to learn more about the candidates and see how the situation develops before they make a decision how to cast their votes so its just a news/published views thread.

Good point. But frankly I can't imagine that decorum being maintained in the final few days and weeks to the end of the marathon line! Good luck! I like what your candidate stands for!

Excellent idea and I think most freepers would respect the intent. I wouldn't mind having a similar post on Uberroth or even Arnold and Simon. Just a place I can go and get info.

I for one have NO idea what's gonna happen in Cal.but I've seen Tom several times on the tube..he comes across well spoken, and well reasoned...at the worst this is marvelous exposure for him.....and possibly the beginnings of a run for Boxer's seat next year....

Maybe a private freepmail to Jim Robinson asking his views; and seeing if some groundrules could be developed that would encourage mutual respect. At least 'some' 'sanctuaries' where people could go from the same camp who want to work together, and then also have the more open, free style, bare fisted debates where we can all get into it. That would give people a choice.

Leader of drive to abolish State’s Car Tax says Democrats are feeling the heat, but California families are feeling the pain

Sacramento — Senator Tom McClintock on Tuesday blasted the new Bustamante plan to raise over $4 BILLION of new taxes with a majority vote of the state legislature. "This is just another shell game by the big-spending Democrats so they can raise more taxes to continue their Sacramento spending spree."

After Governor Davis took action in June to illegally triple the state’s car tax, Senator McClintock filed a Constitutional Amendment to completely abolish this tax with the California Attorney General. Title & Summary for this measure is due at any time and over twenty thousand people have already signed up to circulate petitions.

"If the Democrats in this state now agree with me that this is the most regressive and abusive tax on the books, then they can simply vote to place my amendment on the March ballot and we can let the people of California vote to end this tax once and for all," said Senator McClintock.

Since the governor’s tripling of the car tax amounts to a $4 BILLION tax increase, the Democrats are planning a suspicious "tax swap" strategy to raise other taxes by a simple majority vote claiming the action is not a tax increase.

"What the legislature giveth with a majority vote, the legislature can take away with a majority vote," warned Senator McClintock. "In 2001 the Democrats promised permanent relief from the car tax and they quickly took that away this year. Democrats now want to lower it next week so they can raise other taxes, and then they will claim the right to raise it right back in January with another majority vote."

"The only way to provide real relief for California's working families is to pass the Constitutional Amendment that abolishes the car tax once and for all," concluded Senator McClintock.

Lets face it, Uberoth and Simon don't have us zany true believers (like me) like McClintock does. I'm not trying to start any debate with that or put others down, I simply put it forth as reality. McClintock is the only candidate that I ever contributed to. Now I hate conspiracies more than your average guy, but does anyone else find it strange just how BAD Tom did compared to those 2, in the Field "poll" released along with Arrianna the other day? I mean, it simply doesn't add up. All the sycophants in Talk Radio that ramble on about Ahrnold consistently get McClintock supporters setting them straight, none for the other 2, yet they supposedly get hirer polling numbers? Like I said, I hate conspiracies-but I definitely smell a Rat there.

Well, I always love a good conspiracy and I think Tom is being ignored by the media because he scares people. He is too sensible and speaks the truth. I think he is very electable.

"...and possibly the beginnings of a run for Boxer's seat next year..."

That's what I'm hoping for because, as much as I like the man and his positions, I don't think he has a prayer of winning this recall election. In fact, it may be that he is in this election primarily for the exposure it brings him. Just my opinion, of course.

You guys are going up against quite an oiled, multifaceted machine. A triumvirate.

Hollywood Money - The White House - The Entrenched Moderate/Liberal California Republican Party. This time in an iron clad alliance. It just resonates in the heart of uninformed California voters easily seduced by a celebrity viewed as a savior.

What a hell of an uphill battle for you and TM. But you can do it, just even low double digits could get him in. A mobilized conservative GOP base vote for your man could just seal the deal. On thing for sure, you have to do it from the grassroots, and you need the most extensive 'get out the vote' effort to the precinct level ever seen in California. I'm talking 2-3 people working one precinct on election day, harranging your guys to get to the polls.

I supported Simon last year, but will never vote for him again. Not after the incredibly stupid, inept campaign he ran. Plus he's just not worn well on me. As for Uberoth, I haven't got a clue why he's even in this race since he has about as much chance of winning as I do, which is to say none. I would like to see Simon pull out and throw his support to McClintock. In my view, that would give Tom a much stronger chance of winning.

In any case, my focus in this campaign has become defeating Cruz Bustamante at all costs. So whoever has the best chance of doing that come October will be the person I will vote for.
