I believe animals will be in heaven. There is some biblical evidence to suggest this. There is a debate as to whether or not there is a soul/spirit distinction. I do not believe an animal has the same sort of reasoning capability as a human being, and does not need a Savior in the sense that humanity does. I also believe animals suffer things such as death because sin came into the world and cursed what God created as very good. Finally, I believe that God will one day rectify this situation, and animals and human beings will live in perfect harmony. Looking forward to that day, because so much of this current world is just plain bad.

"because so much of this current world is just plain bad." Hard to argue with that. Humans have the unique ability, whether God given or otherwise, to choose to make things better. Mostly though, we seem to have made things worse.
I figure that if a dog has a soul, then so does even the simplest creature, down beyond even an insect. Maybe we are blessed with more of the stuff of which souls are made. Maybe there are creatures in other worlds or universes who are blessed with even more of it than us.
