US military families push to bring Iraq troops home

WASHINGTON, Aug. 12 — A group of about 600 U.S. military families, upset about the living conditions of soldiers in Iraq, are launching a campaign asking their relatives to urge members of Congress and President George W. Bush to bring the troops home.

''We're growing more and more disturbed about the conditions that are developing. Our concerns are both for our troops and the people in Iraq,'' said Nancy Lessin, a founder of Families Speak Out, formed last fall to oppose the war in Iraq.

Susan Schuman, whose son Justin is in the Massachusetts National Guard deployed to Samarra, Iraq, said he shares a small room in a former Iraqi police barracks with five other men. ''They are rationed to 2 liters of water a day and it's 125 degrees (52 degrees C), they haven't had anything but MREs (Meals Ready to Eat),'' she told Reuters, adding that uncertainty about when the troops would come home was ''most disheartening.''

Organizers hope to take advantage of Congress' summer recess to voice their concerns to lawmakers in their home states. ''The idea is not to confront but say look, 'what is going on?''' said Dennis O'Neil, a member of Veterans for Peace, another group involved in the campaign. ''This war was supposed to be quick.''

Lessin, whose stepson is a Marine who was in the Gulf until late May, told Reuters the group plans a campaign of protests and demonstrations starting on Wednesday and aims to raise public awareness of the number of soldiers killed and wounded in Iraq.

Note the following.

1. It's the anti-war / anti-US crowd that were so wrong about everything else now wanting to find another way for us to lose.

2. It's from Massachusets

3. These are not "military families." These are crying whining mothers.

4. This group is called "Families Speak Out." It would be much better if they just shut up and saved their speaking out for their ongoing complaints that Mass. Governor Michael Dukaukis was the real winner in 1988.

5. War is hell. Should have seen it in 4 Corps, in the dry season. All the temp + the humidity!

6. They probably embarass their sons and daughters serving overseas.

These sorry son'of bitches are helping to prolong the attacks and tours. The more they express their 'concern' the more the enemy is encouraged to keep up their attacks. The longer it takes to stabilize Iraq, the longer our troops are going to be there.

Not only is this group from Massachusetts, but the story itself is from the anti-American Reuters "news" agency -- the same group that is open-minded about whether Bin Laden is a "terrorist" or not.

No surprises here.

Remember Nancy Lessin and husband Charley Richardson? They were active in the anti-war movement before the war. Remember the FR links?

This is a real shame that these parents would USE their children to bash America and bash Bush.A lot of this talk was a dead giveaway to the fact these people were against this war from the first, they did'nt get their way so now they try to belittle everything. Some of this sounded treasonous to me.

Lookee Here!!! Here's more on Nancy Lessin - AFL/CIO & Democrat Shill too: all wrapped up in one nice package

From the Dartmouth Review March 23, 2003
http://69.57.157.207/archives/000948.php

Nancy Lessin, the mother of a US Marine currently stationed in the Gulf and one of those bringing suit to stop a potential war, cited as her motivation that ‘we worry about Joe, we don’t want him to be wounded or die. We don’t want him to be forced to wound or kill innocent Iraqi civilians. That would kill part of him and part of us.’

And where aren't these people screaming for our guys to come home when Clinton put 'em overseas (in other countries) three-four years ago and they're still there. What hypocracy with the libs.

Any soldier who instructs his Mommy to go out and whine in public about her poor baby, should be brought home. He's obviously not tough enough to be an effective soldier and would probably be a drag on any missions. The letters and emails we get from over there, gloss over the physical discomforts and talk positively about what they are accomplishing. My mother was always worried about her sons when we served, but, she would never, ever hold a press conference to complain that Sonny was hot-she knew we wouldn't stand for it.

Don't these dolts understand that a soldier is in the business of killing the enemy and breaking things. And in assuming that responsibility, they are at risk. Do these people think that war is like playing a game of checkers on the back porch? Sheeesh!

I just spoke with my son who is in Baghdad. His main compaint is the indefiniteness of their mission. His is a scout unit that is now doing routine police work in a slum, because the IP are worthless. The military is slow about bringing up the creature comforts --it IS 125 degrees there. His commandeer is keeping them in between 12 noon and 6. No water rationing, but the food sucks. Biggest worry is the bombs on the side of the road which are aimed at US troops. They try to stagger routes and times but they do have to patrol the main streets. Morale in his platoon is good, but he and his ncos have had to work hard at it. It gets tiresome after 5 hours in the saddle.

You make sure to let your son know that the majority of us American parents are proud of him and his platoon!

Yesterday my son and some of his men was moving through the market on foot when they came across a guy lying dead on the street. They asked about him and some Iraqi said that, O yes, he was feeling sick earlier and then he died. My son called the IPs and they came and took the body off to the morgue. Those "innocents" really care for their own, right? To be fair, they live in a crappy environment and are just trying to stay alive themselves.

I would appreciate it if you would contact your conmgressman and ask him to ask the DOD to get some creature comforts forward. The military makes promises and then delivers half-way. Yes, so what else is new, but someone needs to kick butt and if there is any militry shirking going on, a congressionall inquiry will help.
