I was thinking the same exact thing. How difficult would it be to just make a non-self-destructing copy of the DVD?

I don't have a DVD burner but I certainly would find it easy to hook up some RCA plugs between the DVD player and the VCR. Not too tough.

True, but you probably wont get a watchable result. Most movies have Macrovision activated. What that does is send a signal to the VCR that messes up the image recorded. There are devices you can get to filter it out when recording but if you are going to spend money, you might as well just get a DVD-R burner.
