Turkey, the United States and Israel began a joint exercise by elements of their naval and air forces in the international waters of the Eastern Mediterranean The search and rescue maneuver is called 'Reliant Mermaid-VI'.
Turkish Navy Commodore Captain Sems Aktug said that the maneuvers would focus on port training between August 11 and 15, and stated that search and rescue maneuvers would be performed in the international waters.
According to the Turkish news agency, Turkey will participate in the exercise with two frigates, two coast guard boats, two helicopters and one search and rescue aircraft, while a total of four vessels, five helicopters and two search and rescue aircrafts will take part from the United States and Israel.
Egyptian, Israeli, U.S. and Jordanian military officials would participate in the maneuver as observers.
