But, there is no reason a divorced man cannot be a leader in a church, if he has truly repented

Except for the words in that pesky bible, which says that only men who are the husbands of one wife are qualified for such positions. But then again, that same document says women should keep quiet in the church, and that would mean no women preachers. Surely God was just confused when He wrote that part.

It is going forward that matters, but if a church leader counsels those in the midst of marital strife that divorce is 'okay', then they're going against Scripture.

Anybody who re-marries after being divorced is committing adultery according to God (but again, He only said that in an obsolete pesky document which is ignored by our more "enlightened" pseudo-churches. Surely God now realizes that our modern wisdom is so much greater than his archaic rules).

Since Jesus himself said divorce in the case of adultery by the wife is valid, I think a case can be made that a man is truly married only to one wife if the first wife has committed adultery and has been divorced on that basis alone. That marriage, in the words of Jesus, can be ended. I admit it is open to interpretation. If that interpretation is valid, then it is not adultery to remarry. (It is, however, adultery to engage in pre-marital sex, and to lust after women, and so on.)

Nothing I would advocate conflicts with the Bible, but some areas as are open to interpretation. If, for example, Jesus had never explicitly said that adultery is a basis for divorce, then I would agree with your understanding completely. When the Bible provides room for interpretation, I try to be as tolerant as I hope Jesus will be with me.

But there is no room for interpretation, that I can see, for 'casual' divorce for convenience (nor for active homosexuality, nor for idolatry, nor for lots of things that are currently fashionable).
