Speaking of this latest High Speed Vessel to hoist the Stars and Stripes, Rear Admiral Paul Ryan, Commander Mine Warfare Command, US Navy said “the name Swift is most appropriate, because of its high speed, it reached 47 knots on sea trials.”

These vessels are absolutely awesome. 47 knots and they can carry 14 Bradleys and all their crews and embarked troops.

I believe their may be a proposal to put the new vertical launch Evolved Sea Sparrow on board. Other than that, they may get RAM and CIWS, but I know of no plans for offensive weaponry like the Harpoon.

There's some work going on at the moment in designing a class of warship using this type of ship.

Rumour has it a new class of frigate is planned to replace the OH Perry class FFG. If it goes ahead, the new class may be called Vampire (already there's Buffy and Slayer jokes going around).

When I know more I'll let you guys know (if I can).
