I have no idea! From my lofty perch, I'd say the contruction of the pyramids was an exercise in science!

If you ever plan on being marooned on an island or going to prison, be sure to pack Joseph Needham's Science and Civilisation in China. Seventeen volumes as I recall. Amazing stuff.

Hipparcus measured the distance to the moon in 123 BC. The Greeks also measured the diameter of the earth. Most of modern geometry and a fair bit of algebra was discovered by the Greeks. The Arabs invented chemistry. The Indians did important research in algebra. People have already referrd to the Chinese.
