Prime Minister Ariel Sharon convened the security cabinet in his office this morning to discuss the worsening security situation. Earlier today, Defense Minister Sha'ul Mofaz - who cut short his European vacation last night - met with top IDF and GSS officials for the same purpose. Israel is not planning a major offensive against the Palestinian terrorist infrastructures in light of the PA's failure to take action. So say top political and security sources today. Prime Minister Sharon, in a speech last night, said only that there will be no progress on the diplomatic front as long as the terror continues and the PA takes no action against it. He laid the blame on Abu Mazen, "who is not fulfilling his obligation to fight terrorism."
Six wounded victims of yesterday's two suicide-murder attacks remain hospitalized - including one in critical condition. Yechezkel Yekutieli, 43, of Rosh HaAyin, who was killed in yesterday's attack in his city, was buried last night, and 18-year-old Erez Hershkovitz of Elon Moreh was laid to rest last night after he was killed in the Ariel attack. The army last night destroyed the home in Shechem of the terrorist who committed the Rosh HaAyin attack.
Palestinian terrorists attacked Israelis twice last night. They opened fire at a bus in Wadi Haramiya, between Ofrah and Shilo; no one was hurt, and IDF soldiers in the area returned fire. The terrorists escaped. In the south, sniper fire was directed at an IDF outpost near Gadid; no one was hurt.
