Can Schwarzenegger be stopped by Davis?

With his magnetic personality, his glamorous aura and his willingness to spend millions of his own dollars, Arnold Schwarzenegger could simply suck all of the oxygen out of the arena, leaving Gray Davis and other would-be successors gasping for breath, unable to gain any attention from media or voters.
Does that mean Schwarzenegger's ascendancy to the governorship is inevitable? No.

You couldn’t make this stuff up. The lead Republican contender to become governor of California, should the effort to recall Democratic Governor Gray Davis succeed, is a muscle-bound movie star with a spurious education, flimsy command of English and no political experience whatsoever.
