" Released with great fanfare, the study predicted that, if population growth and resource consumption were allowed to continue unchecked, the world would come to an end by about 2070"
The environmentalists predict the same end of the world, also based on junk science. Since it has become a large political movement, the fact that their theories are absurd do not seem to matter. At least the population theory was exposed as a fraud.

http://www.thenewamerican.com/tna/1994/vo10no21.htm The MO of the UN:
"The acceptance of this premise is a significant victory for the socialist worldview: If population growth creates a "crisis" exceeding the remedial abilities of free people, then the question is no longer whether global socialism is "necessary," but rather the specific form that system will take. Accordingly, it was appropriate that the major secondary theme of the conference was "development" -- meaning redistribution of wealth from the industrial "North" to the impoverished "South."
The UN is completely engrossed in exploiting problems in the World into crises. Kofi, the burnt match, sees himself as the powerful benevolent socialist leader of the world, having more wisdom than free people to solve problems.
The UN is dangerous. Globalists are dangerous. What will be their next scam?

In Defoe's "Further Adventures of Robinson Crusoe" , published early in the 17th century, one can find a reference to female babies floating down the rivers of China. Crusoe observes that the society of China is barbaric for it's advanced state of civilization. He has difficulty reconciling the circumstance, and is disgusted (if I remember correctly).
Defoe's story was based upon what he heard from sailors who had been there (again if I remember correctly).
So I'm not so sure all this infanticide is a new thing; it seems to have been going on over there for at least three hundred years.

...It is obvious that many intellectual and political leaders from the extreme left ['socialists'/'communists'/'fellow travelers'] are exploiting fears of environmental catastrophe to advance their political agenda...
...It is quite obvious to all but the most raving statist that an argument in favor of collectivism over capitalism can no longer be made in terms of individual or collective economic gain...The old 'logic' of collectivism that was advanced during the last century by people such a Marx and Keynes has been largely discredited by Mises, Hayek, Friedman, etc...Quite simply: Collectivism cannot create wealth...Collectivism can only create an environment in which everyone is equally impoverished...
...So now the collectivists/statists have shifted to a more modern, fashionable and saleable pitch: "sustainability"...That means we will have plenty of opportunity and resources to starve to death in the dark equally, fairly, indefinitely, with no negative impact to the environment...

Another thought:
I can't help but think that the Chinese officials readily embraced the notion that babies could be killed in the name of saving China: they must have some collective guilt over the long-practiced cultural habit of offing their unwanted offspring.
This leads me to notice that it's not so different from the excuses used in Western countries...ours included...to assuage the guilt of our peculiar infanticidal habits. What, 30 to 40 million kids in 30 years?

hello didn't you forget, the world ran out of drinking water in 1999, the year 2000 brought the elimination of the ozone layer and of course that fact that 1/2 of the US population has starved to death.
(oh and we are now in an ice age and cross country skiing in miami.)

What is the end game for leftists like Hillary and what is motivating them to destroy the institutions of this country?(for 30 years running) Why dismantle the most successful system ever and turn your back on your own history and people? What is wrong with these sickos? Thats what I do not understand.

What will the next UN crisis be? They know that Bush will not let them usurp any more US power.

I believe the rest of the world feels they can sit and wait for 2008. Then look for Jummy Carter and Bill Clinton to solicit our enemies (including the French) for help in electing a weak will president.
Contain Bush because US presidents are limited in terms. Socialist countries' presidents hardly even need an election.

Clinton will be UN president by then.
