Yeah, you probably don't believe in astrology either.
Copernican heretic!

Could the Mars warming be also due to the fact that Mars is getting closer to the Earth, hence the Sun? No. Mars is in its normal orbit around the sun. Pluto, however, is closer to the sun than it has been in the past century, and is warmer than ever seen before in the past century. That's just because it takes Pluto longer to orbit the sun.

But our very own star is a relatively stable, main-sequence star that does not emit anomalous radiation. It does emit a solar wind of hydrogen nuclei (protons), but their speed is low enough to be deflected by the Earth's magnetic field. The aurora is a result of some of these particles reaching the atmosphere near the poles.
Cosmic rays are much higher speed (relativistic speeds) charged particles emitted by stellar explosions, which come from nova and supernova events that only affect stars much larger than the sun. They are so fast that they are only slightly affected by either cosmic or terrestrial magnetic fields, and they can travel through empty space unchanged until they hit something. We get hit by them all the time.
Charged particles passing through the atmosphere at high speeds leave a track of ionized particles that under some circumstances can cause water vapor to condense, and could be responsible for initiating cloud formation. The best example is a cloud chamber, used to visualize ionized particles emitted by radioactive elements.
Basically, a cosmic ray particle can introduce concentrated energy into a metastable (supercooled) atmospheric system. It could happen....

7-Dec-2001 - Mars could be undergoing major global warming (New Scientist)
Mars is undergoing global warming that could profoundly change the planet's climate in a few thousand years, new data suggests. High-resolution images taken by NASA's Mars Global Surveyor show that the permanent south polar "ice" cap shrank significantly between two successive Martian summers - a period roughly corresponding to two Earth years. If the trend continues at the same rate and the polar cap... This proves that Republicans must exist on Mars! Can't NASA image golf courses, SUV tracks and gated communities with that new set of probes?

Well, it shows that the greenhouse effect truly is universal ;-)

Mars...warming up about like Earth is. Those rovers must be SUVs. ;-)

This can't be true! We would have to redesign all of our models. Why?
What's to redesign?
There has yet to be a single model produced that can predict what has already happened!
I say let's continue laughing and waiting for the first one.

the way most news items are written, who can blame you?
if the news were to be accurate, they'd have to go into detailed explanations of orbital mechanics, including: Earth's orbital period in standard hours measured to the fifth decimal place (at least), Same for that of Mars, an explanation of positions relative to the plane of the ecliptice, etc...
Who has time/space for that kind of detail, especially when *important* news is happening, like J-Lo's breakup with the entire starting lineup of the LA Lakers?

Glad I could clarify things for you.

in cosmic ray emissions account for about 75 percent of climate variation throughout the millennia
Well, obviously we need a cosmic radiation tax ASAP!
That will cut down on those harmful emmissions.

Hot summer in Europe. Cool summer in Chicago and New York City. Clearly we are stealing their coolness. It is the fault of George W Bush, Rod Blagojevich, Daley, Pataki, Bloomberg, and Anglo-Saxons in general.
More fodder for the No room for humans folks.
Wait a minute! Is Blagojevich an Anglo-Saxon? Duh????

Thus, say the scientists, the Kyoto accord of 1997 -- which was aimed at tackling the global warming phenomenon through limitations on carbon dioxide -- is not the panacea some thought it would be. Even the Kyoto accord data showed that enacting the accord would only have a 0.03 degree effect.
