He may be a pro hunting guide(guy who gets paid cash to drop off customers in a tree over bait), but he's wrong. The only bear that hunts humans is a polar bear. Grizz kills, because he's territorial. If the village don't claim the body quick enough, grizz will bury it in a pile, come back in a couple of weeks after it's aged to his liking and eat it.

Black bears never stalk humans, they always back off with the following exceptions. Female with cubs, crazy older female that never had any, or they were stillborn, male in fall mating, you threaten the bear during dinner. If the bear happens to kill they might nibble, but that's it. Black bears are bush pigs and behave just like their domesting cousins farm pigs. If the farmer falls down in the sty the pigs kill and eat him. They are not preditory to the farmer though.

Again, if the 400 bear(male) wanted this woman for dinner, she'd a been et. There's a better chance she smelled pretty and he was just being amorous.

Hate to call you out, Spunkets, but that Outdoor Life guy seems pretty authoritative to me. (Check out the link yourself.) The guy says black bears prey on humans, you say they don't. So with all due respect: How do you know he's wrong? What's the source of your knowledge of black bears? Outdoor Life is a reputable magazine. Please explain, if you're inclined, how come you know more than they do.

As for 1stFreedom: Amen, brother! Looks like the NJ Bear Hunt '03 is ON ON ON! Unless the radicals stage a big late inning rally--always possible with that dope Bradley Campbell in charge of DEP--I'll be somewhere in Sussex with my Mossberg 695. Take that, Christie Whitman.

You are incorrect. There have been a number of specials on television about black bears and black bear behavior and black bear attacks. There are scores of documented recent accounts of black bears attacking, killing and eating people. Bears are highly intelligent animals, and like most intelligent animals, displayed highly vaaried and individualized behavior patterns. I suggest you research this subject more closely.
