When I was a kid, we were so poor we didn't have arms or legs. Dad used to have to strap us to the sheep to get to school.

LOL!
We were so poor we had to walk barefooted to school...uphill, both ways. In the winter, Dad wrapped our bare feet in barb wire so we wouldn't slip on the ice.

I'll bet you had a younger brother named Bill that you used to stuff into a mailbox, too. And another brother named Bob that you used to throw into the pool. And another one named Art you used to nail to the wall. And a sister named Eileen you used to tip over all the time...

"When I was a kid, we were so poor we didn't have arms or legs. Dad used to have to strap us to the sheep to get to school. "Hey, thanks bud. I burst out laughing in the middle of a confrence call - one second too late on the mute button. Try explaining that with tears streaming from your eyes...

Obesity is not gender specific.
I've been thinking outside the energy in/energy expended area into areas I know little about. Since WWII we've had changes in everything we do and in the way we do it. I wonder what is outgassed into our foods from all the plastics used in processing (and packaging)? About all the preservatives and additives and how our bodies handle these impurities introduced while digesting and absorbing. what if we scorch the teflon?
I'm afraid these hormones our animals (and plants) are fed may pass on and alter our own cells. Like a cancerous fat cell? The chicken breasts I buy today seem as big as the whole chicken when I was a boy.
I believe weight loss is something above mere lessening the intake of x calories, protiens, or carbs. I think we have some cell structure changes that don't want to give it up as energy.
When we smoke, it's not just tobacco anymore. so many fillers, additives, fresheners, plastic chains, and who knows what is used to enhance the growth of the plant. Then add in the pesticides... All these are heat modified during the burning process and wind up in our bloodstream and every cell of the body.
So many more pieces to the puzzle than in Grandpa's day.
So big a difference between fast food and Grandma's kitchen
I think if we put some researchers into chemistry instead of calories we would be looking in a more probable direction.
Genetics... corn, etc. Into the cow... into us... Scares me! Afraid to go there.
