Make the Recall Count (Robert Scheer version)
Republicans are running it as a shell game to distract from their misdeeds -- don't play along
"Take him, he's yours."
That was my initial response to the California recall, aimed at a conservative Democratic governor who often has betrayed the state's large progressive base of voters the same folks who held their noses to elect and then reelect him.
Make the Recall Count (Ralph Nader Version)
Californians have a real chance to snatch opportunity from a potential political debacle
By Ralph Nader, Ralph Nader ran for president in 2000.
The upcoming California gubernatorial recall election (the first ever) has been described as a "circus," a "farce," "wacky" and "show business." More reflective observations have described it as a recall qualified by Republican multimillionaires to set up other Republican multimillionaires as candidates to replace the incumbent, Gray Davis.
Sir:
I wish to commend the Times for keeping its op-ed page balanced. Running commentary from Ralph Nader (on the left) and Robert Scheer (on the lefter) took real courage. If I squint when I'm reading it, I can almost imagine there's a conservative viewpoint represented on the Commentary page of the Los Angeles Times. Nah; that's as improbable as Arnold Schwartzenegger running for Governor.

That way they are 'compromising' and 'being balanced', y'see.
The first sign that he is truly done. When people start refering to flaming leftists as 'conservative democrats' they are truly trying to rehabilitate their image. Look at the fawning the press are doing over Howard Dean and trying to remake him as a "fiscal conservative".
