Here in STL, we have been enjoying relatively cool temps the last week. But normally its hotter than sh*t here in the summer. I think the French wimpiness is coming to the surface..

Don't forget what Dusty Baker said about whites being weaker in the heat than dark skinned people. Looks like the Islamics will takeover before we know it ...

Geez, what is WRONG with these people. We're used to 115 degrees all summer long, and our military is putting up with 130 degrees and they live in tents.
Don't they know they're supposed to drink lots of water and make sure they get a little more salt in their food during heat waves? Haven't they ever heard of putting a wet sheet in front of a fan?

I live in Phoenix, AZ. This Saturday we broke record at 116F and 60% humidity. Sunday It was 114F. Today it was 111F. I don't see what the big deal is about 100F and 80%...I mean take a cool shower for once in your life or go to the beach you strange French.
AZ is a major area for retired/elderly people, so thats not it. It must be the smell that is knockin the french down.
TO FRANCE: DON'T FEAR THE WATER, IT IS YOUR FRIEND. USE SOAP TOO.

Far be it from me to defend the French, but 100 degrees at 80% is pretty hot and sticky, particularly if you aren't used to it. Apparently, in France, they aren't. The same situation occurs in Chicago occasionally, and we see a few deaths. I suspect that the elderly and very young are the most prevalent among the deceased.
Around here, we don't see over 100 very often, but its always humid in Tennessee. I have to admit, though, when I was out west a few years ago facing 100 degree heat, someone decided to point out that it was a dry heat. I replied that my oven also provided a dry heat. :)

LMAO, yes the "dry heat" can very much feel like stepping inside an oven. I drink about a gallon of water a day in the heat, i work outdoors 9 hours a day in 100+F. When i go home 75F on my a/c feels so cold I use a blanket sometimes.

It was 106 here over the weekend and I didn't think it was bad. A little warm but nothing that would kill anyone ---and I didn't sit an airconditioned rooms ----just ceiling fans and open car windows. Sometimes when it gets real hot somebody raises their arms to cool off and then all bets are off on the killing aspect.

I know how it is, my last year in Idaho, before I was exiled East, 120 degrees no humidity, today New Hampshire, 86 and rain and more rain. I can take the heat but the humidity kills me.

In the peak of summer, I keep the house at 78 and it does feel comfortable (though I admit to turning it down 2 degrees at night an wearing a thin blanket).
I do have to admit though - I'm not as much of an outdoors person as I used to be. I work in an office setting so I don't get as used to the heat as I used to be.

The temps cited in the article are par for the course here, but if you're not used to it and don't know how to deal with it, people are going to die. The same sort of thing happens in San Francisco once or twice a year. They're so used to it being about 65 degrees every single day that they can't handle it if it gets above the low 80s. The National Weather Service actually has to issue warnings, and lots of people end up hospitalized or dead, all at temperatures that people almost anywhere else in the country would consider merely annoying.

Here in U. City it's just the same (imagine that;)).
Yes, beleive me I know STL weather. I've lived here almost my whole life. In my lifetime, the 80's ('86 and '88 specifically) were brutal.
To: Desdemona
Wow! I didnt know you lived in STL! You were just the first person I replied to. Small world.

Yes, watching Cards highlights as I type. Edmonds had some great plays tonight.

The compassion of the posters is overwhelming. Perhaps we can start performing late-term abortions and shooting children while we're on this "screw the old, so long as they're French" kick?

Yes, and what are we going to do with Vina when he comes off the DL?
Did you hear the overnight low is going to be in the 60's tonight?
