Limiting people to doing things that "God intended" will make for a very short list of possible actions. I guess I'd better quit flying and scuba diving.

Theft and pedophilia are crimes with victims. When two consenting guys bump uglies, who is the victim? Bad analogy. A better one might be selling Yanni tickets. I don't see how people can stomach that crap, but if they want to indulge then I'll just ignore them.

Ok, how about changing "what God intended" to what he "specifically didn't forbid." Ok - I know some people choose not to see the meaning in the Bible, but it's there and it's my interpretation. If I'm wrong, at least I'm erring on the side of caution. I'm trying to remember my college psych class. There was this thing with four sections and you compared the pros and cons. It would go something like this:

If I say homosexuality is wrong and so does God: I have followed His principles and haven't sinned.

If I say it's wrong and God doesn't: I am misunderstanding His principles, but so long as I treat the homosexuals as I would have them treat me, I have lost nothing.

If I say homosexuality is right and God says it's ok: I'm ok.

If I say homosexuality is right but God says it's a sin: I lose -- I have chosen a path that leads me away from Him.

If you look at the 4 possibilities, the way you lose big time is to say it's fine when God says it's sin. So long as I am treating the homosexual, the PERSON not the ACT, "as the least of these" then my condemnation of the act itself has the least possible negative ramifications. Combine that with the fact that I believe that legislating homosexual marriage as being equal to heterosexual marriage is a total assault on the family as God created it, and I HAVE to stand up for what I believe. To not do so would be a sin. If I am wrong in what I believe, then I pray that God will help me see differently. But unless He does, this is where I am.

As for the things I mentioned being crimes with victims, well, as I see it, the problem with that statement is that it's all relative. We don't think of homosexuality as having victims because we've been so inundated with it on every show from NBC prime time and everywhere else until we are used to it. So, let's say for 5 years we keep seeing roles played on TV and hear psychologists on the radio talking about how pedophelia is "normal" and "healthy," that the children love the man who's abusing them, etc. Would it wear us down enough to make us change our mind about that? There's already an organization (if not more than one) out there who want us to believe that -- it's called NAMBLA (North American Man - Boy Love Association.)

To me, the Bible is an absolute standard that should (not always does because I'm not perfect by any stretch) govern every area of my life. When I read in there that it's improper for man to lie with man, I will err on the side of caution and read it literally. It seems like a better option to me than to take a cavalier attitude and assume I know what God meant even though He said something else.

*Off soapbox*
