[history]
Arnold Schwarzenegger's campaign said Sunday that the actor had voted for Proposition 187, the divisive 1994 ballot measure to deny social services to illegal immigrants, offering a first glimpse at one of his stances on a major policy issue.
The Republican has promoted himself as the candidate in California's gubernatorial recall who can best appeal to the state's politically and ethnically diverse electorate. But Democrats were quick to jump on the disclosure as a chink in the action hero's armor.

"[Impeachment] was another thing I will never forgive the Republican Party for," Schwarzenegger said. "We spent one year wasting time because there was a human failure. I was ashamed to call myself a Republican during that period."

Well, this is a glimmer of good news.
May he continue to have the strength of his convictions and build on this modest gesture to conservatism.

Probably explains why Wilson supports him.

"Bebitch"?
Is that a middle name or a lifestyle choice?

Illegal immigrants are in the country ILLEGALLY. Therefore, they should be rounded up and deported NOT GIVEN FREE SOCIAL SERVICES AT TAXPAYERS EXPENSE. Because why should illegals want to become citizens to pay for other illegals, if they're given a free ride as illegals? By definition, "illegal" means against the law and shouldn't be in this country feeding at the public trough.

Right approach, wrong framing. Pete blew it on this one.

Thanks. Still after all the reading on FR can hardly believe Californians want the media-formed and hyped image of Anauld "Termite the Terminator" Schwarzenegger when better qualified candidates like McClintock and Simon are available.
To: Kevin Curry
A more apt question begging to be answered is, does he support the issuance of drivers licenses to illegal aliens.

The majority of California voters approved Proposition 187, so Arnold voted with us. Good for him. The coward Gray Davis could have had it reinstated, but of course he was too busy kissing the butts of the hispanic lobby.

AP has decided to "jazz up" the headline since the original story...

The GOP-backed Proposition 187 denied health care and public education to illegal immigrants. Although it was eventually ruled unconstitutional, it remains a contentious issue and a litmus test for some voters, particularly Hispanics, to gauge whether a candidate is immigrant-friendly. Speaking on ABC's "This Week" with George Stephanopoulos, Art Torres, chairman of the California Democratic Party, slammed Schwarzenegger for his decision to appoint former Gov. Pete Wilson, the architect of Proposition 187, as chairman of his new campaign.
"There's a famous phrase in our community, and that is, judge a person by the friends that he keeps," Torres said. "And unfortunately, his new chairman, Governor Wilson, supported 187 furiously against immigrants and Latinos."
There's an infamous Democrat lie, repeated by many Freepers. Proposition #187 targeted Illegal Aliens, only.
It will be interesting to see what Arnold has to say about #187 in the coming days. Now that Cruz "n-word" Bustamante has been unveiled as the the La Raza face of the race-baiting California Democrats, and Art Torres has decided to make Pete Wilson and Prop #187 an issue, things could get deliciously dicey for the Democrat and Republican National Committees.
Plucked from thin air prediction... If Bustamante's n-word problem gets any play, Gary Coleman might be a factor in this circus.

(Where does Arnold stand on Mexico's matricula consular ID cards for Illegal Aliens?)
To: John Jorsett
I've been following other media takes on this story. Of course, ABC news and the UK Guardian have the headline, "Schwarzenegger Opposed Immigrant Services," conveniently omitting the "illegal" part.
To: John Jorsett
A pleasant surprise from Ahn-uld.
If the Terminator supported Prop. 187, then I wonder what does he think of the following:
(1) Issuing driver's licenses to illegals
(2) Granting illegals in-state college tuition
(3) Allowing state agencies to accept the Mexican ID card as a valid form of identification.
(4) Forbidding law enforcement to inquire about a suspect's immigration status
